Laparoscopy Q & A

What is laparoscopy?

Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical technique during which a small camera is used (laparoscope) to display images onto a monitor, which allows Dr. Yuri to view the uterus, ovaries, pelvis, and to perform surgery without making large incisions.

It eliminates the need for complicated, invasive surgical procedures and promotes a much more comfortable recovery time and minimal scarring.

When is laparoscopy used?

Dr. Yuri may perform a laparoscopy for diagnostic purposes and evaluation, including abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain, swelling, and menopausal problems. He can also utilize it as an effective treatment of several gynecological conditions.

Dr. Yuri may perform a laparoscopy to diagnose or treat the following:

  • Pelvic pain
  • Ectopic pregnancy
  • Myomectomy (removal of fibrous growths)
  • Endometriosis
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Removal of ovaries
  • Hysterectomy

What risks and complications are associated with laparoscopy?

Dr. Yuri is a skilled gynecologic surgeon who has an outstanding safety record and is an expert in the field of minimally invasive surgical gynecology.

Laparoscopic surgery is a safe surgical procedure when compared to traditional open surgery techniques. Fewer than 1% of patients develop serious complications following laparoscopy.

As with any surgical procedure, laparoscopic surgery is associated with some rare risks and complications. Some patients who suffer from complex medical conditions may be at a higher risk of developing complications as a result of laparoscopic surgery.

What is recovery time from laparoscopic surgery?

Laparoscopic surgery was developed to minimize recovery time, discomfort, and promote quick recovery. Most patients who undergo extensive laparoscopic surgery return to their daily activities within five to seven days. Patients recover fully within two to four weeks.

Dr. Yuri and his medical team provide you with detailed recovery information and post-operative instructions following laparoscopic surgery. They also carefully monitor your progress and recovery through comprehensive follow-up care and gynecologic appointments.
